Briggs School (1&2), Arthur T. Stanlick school (3-5), White Rock Elementary School (3-5), Jefferson Township Middle School (6-8) and Jefferson Township High School (9-12).

Jefferson Township Culture and History

Known as the "Year Round Recreational Capital" Jefferson always has an outdoor activity going on. Visit Camp Jefferson for a picnic on the fields, and a good old fashion square dance at night. Weekends at both Ridge Road Field and Lakeside Field are the playgrounds for the Milton Recreation Association and the Jefferson Sports League. Attend a high school sporting event and watch the Falcons battle against teams from the SCIL. So whether it's hiking with the local Boy and Girl Scout troops or flying with the Falcons, the atmosphere and people make it an enjoyable experience for all. Every year, around Independence Day, Jefferson Township hosts a day of celebration known as Jefferson Township Day (it is colloquially referred to as Jefferson Day). Throughout the entire day, entertainment and festivities at the Jefferson Township High School are provided. In the afternoon, a parade featuring the town’s fire trucks, high school marching band (Jefferson Towship High School Golden Falcon Marching Band) and other local groups marches down Weldon Road. After the parade, there are a variety of activities set up on the JTHS grounds for attendants of Jefferson Day. Various shops, ranging from arts and crafts to jewelry, are set up and there are numerous food stations available, which typically sell traditional fairground food such as funnel cakes and pierogies. For children, there are several slides set up, as well as a bounce pen.

Jefferson Township - Geography

Beautiful Jefferson Township is nestled deep in the northwest corner of Morris County, New Jersey. This countryside town is just minutes off of RT. 80 and located less than an hour from New York City.

Jefferson Township encompasses 42 square miles, including the Mahlon Dickerson Reservation and Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey's largest fresh water lake. Jefferson has many other lake communities; Lake Shawnee, White Rock Lake, Lake Winona, Cozy Lake, Longwood Lake, Lake Forest, and Lake Swannanoa. All of these communities enjoy the resources with activities ranging from fishing and swimming to water skiing and boat racing. The Rockaway River's source starts deep within Berkshire Valley giving local anglers a trout fishing experience. Nature abounds Jefferson with a vast population of wildlife and foliage. Beneath giant oaks and maples is a forest floor that is home to bears, deer, foxes and much more.
 

Jefferson Township Recreation

 
Jefferson Township runs a 97-acre facility called Camp Jefferson. Purchased in 1999 by the Township of Jefferson from the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Clifton. The camp includes a community lodge, a recreation center, The Jefferson Highlights Community Television cabin, the Jefferson Township Chamber of Commerce cabin, the BD&W Model Railroad Train cabin, and three cabins for Scouting. The Community Lodge is available for rental (no alcohol) for birthdays, anniversaries, graduation parties, etc. Also on the site are trails for hiking, an all-purpose field, a five-acre lake, a fire ring, an outdoor pavilion, and an amphitheater. This facility is used seven days a week by numerous recreational and civic groups for meetings, registration sessions, and dinners.

Camp Jefferson runs a summer day camp program. The camp is open to all children entering Kindergarten thru 6th grade. A teen program is also available for children entering 7th and 8th grades. Additional fees will apply for before and/or after camp care, morning transportation, electives, and special trips. There will be weekly themes and special programs included in the typical camp activities which would include playground activities, sports, creative crafts, science and nature, fishing, trail walks and so much more! Informational brochures will be distributed to all elementary and middle school students in the Jefferson Township school district as well as all local nursery schools/day care centers.


Special Events at Camp Jefferson

Winterfest is held in February, and Camp Jefferson is transformed into a place to is held in February, and Camp Jefferson is transformed into a place to sleigh-ride, toboggan, and snow tube down the hill towards the lake. If Mother Nature cooperates, participants can expect outdoors fun with refreshments in the Community Lodge next to a roaring fire.

There are traditionally three separate groups consisting of toddlers to age two, three and four-year olds, and five and six-year olds. Open from April though November, this facility is geared towards bicycles, rollerblades, and in-line skating. Open on a limited basis and fully supervised, there are seasonal and daily registrations available. Safety equipment is mandatory – helmets, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads.
