With an abundance of lakes and beautiful natural surroundings, West Milford, New Jersey was once largely a summertime retreat for the affluent residents of New York City. Today, the town is the year-round home for many families and professionals, many of which live in beautiful houses situated along the same waterfront property that gave West Milford its reputation as a desirable place to live.
Although West Milford is the largest township in New Jersey at more than 80 square miles, the town prides itself on having a “small town” feel. This strong sense of community comes from the dedicated involvement of its citizens in everything from town meetings to civic groups and school events.
West Milford is also known for its excellent recreational activities. The town’s Parks and Recreation Department maintains a vast expanse of undeveloped woodlands that provide residents and visitors alike with opportunities for hiking, fishing, swimming and boating. Also popular are recreational activities of the less adventurous sort, such as West Milford’s popular Teen Center Coffee House and the Police Athletic League, which are also sponsored by the recreation department.
Located along highway 23, West Milford is easily accessible by car, train or bus. The township is also located in close proximity to New York City, which is less than thirty miles away.
The West Milford school district is home to six elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. West Milford High School is known for its Scottish-themed marching band, The Highlanders, who are often seen marching in local parades.
With such strong community involvement, a convenient location and a well-regarded school system, real estate in West Milford attracts a variety of buyers looking for homes for sale in Passaic County.
